Announcing Our New Chairs for PyCon Uganda 2024


The Python programming community in Uganda is gearing up for an eventful year with the introduction of our new chairs Hassan Kibirige and Kirabo Atuhurira for PyCon Uganda 2024. This team is set to lead the conference for the region's programmers, educators, businesses, and tech enthusiasts.


With diverse backgrounds in technology, industry experience, and a shared passion for open-source programming, the new leaders are committed to fostering a robust platform for learning, sharing, and innovation.


PyCon Uganda has been pivotal in bringing together a wide array of individuals ranging from seasoned developers to those just beginning their journey with Python.


The new chairpersons are tasked with the continuation of this tradition, aiming to enrich the Python community by organizing the event, leading the organizing team, workshops, talks, and networking sessions that cater to varying levels of expertise and interest.


The 2024 iteration of PyCon Uganda, under the guidance of its new leadership, is expected to not only spotlight the technical applications and advancements of Python but also to emphasize the importance of community engagement and growth.

PyCon Uganda 2024 envisions a technologically empowered Uganda where Python is a cornerstone for software development, education, and industry advancements.

  • Education and Outreach: To educate and inspire the next generation of programmers through workshops, talks, and mentorship opportunities.

About The Chairs


Hassan Kibirige

Hassan Kibirige is a Data Scientist with a passion for developing open-source Python packages for data science and scientific computing. He is the developer and maintainer of Plotnine, a Grammar of Graphics visualization package for Python. Most importantly, his ears maintain a standing invitation for the iconic tunes of Queen.


"I am honored to contribute to the vibrant community at PyCon Uganda, and my aspirations for the upcoming event are grounded in fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation. I hope to witness a gathering where Python enthusiasts, developers, and data scientists come together to exchange ideas, explore new horizons in technology, and collectively propel the Python ecosystem forward.

Kirabo Atuhurira

Transitioning to a career in data, Atuhurira Kirabo has a background in software engineering and is an avid programmer in both R and Python. As a recent Outreachy intern, Kirabo is passionate about open source contributions and mentorship in the space. Kirabo also acts as the CEO of Mindspace, a mental health technology startup based in Uganda. 


"I am excited and humbled to lead PyCon Uganda as the new chair, and my aspirations for this event are rooted in building a dynamic and inclusive Python community. I envision PyCon Uganda as a space where innovation flourishes, knowledge flows freely, and connections between Python enthusiasts deepen.

My hope is to create an environment that encourages diversity, where every participant feels valued and included.
